Steaks are High Wagyu Sale 2017
The Texas Wagyu Association hosted the annual "Steaks are High" sale in Salado, TX on April 22nd at the impressive Tenroc Ranch. There were a record number of consignments and a large crowd on hand. George Owens, Executive Director of American Wagyu Association, updated the membership in attendance. One update mentioned was the AWA usage of DigitalBeef a software package breeders can use to manage data for their herds. I have used DigitalBeef for over two years with the American Akaushi Association. This software package will definitely be an upgrade for the AWA.
I thought the Akaushi consignments provided both quality and outcross options for buyers. There were direct daughters of Rueshaw and Judo available to purchase which was a rarity in itself. Also offered was the four year old bull, SOR Big AL (pictured below), consigned by Larry Tebben and bred by Bill Fisher. My outlook on this bull was high enough to secure a two year breeding lease from the new owners, Wagyuranch.com.
Legendary Akaushi Genetics (akaushigenetics.com) consigned embryos sired by Rueshaw and out of a Big Al x Fuyuko (IMP JPN) daughter. Javier Moreno of Chin Gone Cattle Co. purchased these outstanding outcross genetics with my high endorsement based on full sibling performance I observed two years ago. I was able to watch 10 full siblings to these embryos develop to breeding age and they ranked exceptionally high among their contemporary groups for weaning and yearling growth. Mr. Moreno also purchased three embryos also consigned by Legendary that were sired by Samsung 0947P (F11 free son of Shigemaru and Haruko (IMP JPN) and out of a Big Al x Fuyuko donor.
The hospitality and environment created by the Texas Wagyu Association was exceptional as expected. I had the pleasure of meeting new breeders and seeing old friends (even my college roommate from Texas A&M). I'll have a quick turnaround to get ready for the Australian Wagyu Association's annual convention next week in Albury NSW!
