Passion For Prime Sale 2017

On June 10-11, 2017 I attended the Passion for Prime Wagyu sale in Springfield, MO hosted and coordinated by AWA board member, Mike Kerby. Mr. Kerby did an outstanding job with the event again this year. On Friday evening there was a meal sponsored by Imperial Wagyu beef company and four presenters talking about various Wagyu related topics. I was asked to give a presentation on Akaushi genetics and usage. If you would like a copy of my presentation send me an email to coopaaron@gmail.com.

Our family consigned two embryo packages that averaged $825 per embryo. Legendary Akaushi Genetics consigned the high selling embryo lot at $1600 per embryo. This was to be expected as this was the first offering of Honjo sired embryos. Honjo (FB24705) is the new herdsire for Legendary that is the last descendant of Kaedemaru (daughter of JPN IMP Namiaki Ni). When studying Honjo in person he is an outstanding bull that is very correctly made and full of thickness throughout.

This sale was a managed by JDA and carried out by Butch Booker (auctioneer). In my opinion this was a great opportunity for breeders to get their money's worth on quality female purchases. There were several good females that were in the $4000-6000 range with spring born calves along side. I had two black fullblood cows in mind before the sale started (lots 5 and 14). We were able to purchase the lot 14 cow and bull calf from Celina Cattle Company located in Texas (pictured below). Lot 5 was an outstanding young donor raised by Mike Kerby and Buck Mountain Ranch.

Thanks to Mike Kerby, JDA sale management and Butch Booker for hosting another great event this year. Last year Myers-Cooper Cattle started our Wagyu venture by purchasing fullblood Akaushi embryos from this same sale. It was a great start to forming our family's herd!
